Festival of Architecture and Design
In 2005 the Toronto Society of Architects initiated a poster competition designed to celebrate the first Festival of Architecture and Design (fAd) in Toronto. The TSA staged the competition with an invited jury and cash prizes, and an exhibition of the submissions held at the Design Exchange, to kick off the Festival in May. Participation was open to all members of the Toronto design community.
This was the inaugural year for the Festival of Architecture and Design in Toronto. The value of design in this city was starting to enjoy a resurgence of interest by the private and public sectors. The poster design competition was an opportunity for the design community to declare a zeitgeist, celebrate an accomplishment, or convey a feeling about design achievements in Toronto. A successful poster design can become a marker for a time and place in the living history of this city.
